Superman Using Sex to Spread

The entertainment industry is usually behind the times when it comes to adapting new technologies but they are certainly one of the top industries at marketing. The makers & marketers of the new Superman movie are proving this once again.
Today I ran across “Superman ‘Too Big’ for the Big Screen ” on Slashdot.com . The gist of the article is that Brandon Routh (the new Superman) is extremely well-endowed and the studio executives want him covered up with digital effects.
When you read the article as a marketer, you notice that what’s really happening is they are using PR to get people talking about Superman. Superman has been gone for a long time now and they want to spread the word that he is back.
The ethics of using sex to sell are debatable but the results are not. This news story alone won’t make Superman Returns a blockbuster but this in combination with many other guerrilla tactics and normal marketing methods will definitely make Superman a hit.
