Sales & Marketing at Internet Speed
By Melvin Ram - June 13th, 2006
eBay has integrated Skype into their website. Starting June 19, users will have the option embed a “Skype Me” button to allow buyers/bidders to contact them using a new feature of eBay called “Ask a seller a question.” When a potential buyer clicks the “Skype Me” button on the Web page, buyers can instantly be put into contact with the seller via a Web-based voice call, a text message, or both.
This integration could have a much deeper impact than most expect. As a business owner, manager or marketer, it may affect you the most.
- Expectations may change in the near future. “If you’re selling something online, I want to be able to get answers from a real person… instantly… with the push of 1 button.”
- You might have a new, more effective “call to action” at your disposal if adoption of Skype skyrockets due to this.
These excit me, both as a consumer and as a marketer. Being able to get questions answered instantly would be incredible. Being able to include a button that says “Skype Me” while knowing that 80%-90% of the audience can actually click this button and my phone would ring is even more incredible.
Let’s see how it plays out.
